Dans un tweet, le secrétaire d’Etat américain John Kerry, a en tout qualifié ses discussions avec le président Russe Vladimir Poutine dans la station balnéaire russe de “ franches “ cet après-midi. Les deux hommes ont parlé de la crise ukrainienne bien sûr, mais aussi de la Syrie et du dossier nucléaire iranien.
Diplomatie de la pomme de terre
Cette visite, la première d’un haut responsable américain depuis les manifestations pro-européennes à Kiev fin 2013, a aussi été l’occasion pour John Kerry de s’entretenir avec son homologue Sergueï Lavrov, qui a joué la carte de la détente.
Après un hommage aux soldats tombés pendant la seconde guerre mondiale, il a offert à John Kerry des pommes de terre russes, clin d’oeil à celles que l’Américain lui avait offertes à New York en janvier 2014. Du temps où il était ambassadeur de la Russie à l’ONU, Sergeï Lavrov s‘était en effet dit friand des pommes de terre de l’Idaho, qui depuis lui manquaient…
